This is my favourite job in the trade, normally required either when the strings start breaking, loss of tone quality, unable to raise up to standard pitch or the wrest pins (tuning pins) become loose, sometimes due to age, but mainly because of central heating. As a one man business I don't have the facilities to do restringing other than on the customers premises, but the advantage of this is the customer can see the work from start to finish. I only use the top quality Roslau tin plated steel wire and for my bass strings have always used the same supplier. The picture on the top left is the model D Steinway (pier pavilion at Worthing) which I restrung some years ago they also have another at their other venue (assembly hall) this is mainly used for orchestral concerts and was bought new in 1984. The pictures above are some of my other restrings. Different stages of restringing |
